FSC publishes remedy requirements governed by its Policy for Association V3
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is pleased to announce the publication of the FSC Remedy Framework (FSC-PRO-01-004 V1-0). The FSC International Board of Directors agreed by consensus to approve this normative document at the Board Meeting in March 2023. This procedure sets the remedy requirements enabling association with FSC governed by the Policy for Association version 3.
Any organization that violates the Policy for Association version 3 by engaging in unacceptable activities from 1 January 2023 onwards will have to complete the remedy process according to FSC-PRO-01-004 to become eligible for association with FSC. The remedy process will be governed by a set of permanent and effective measures required for remedying past social and environmental harms.
FSC-PRO-01-004 is based on another normative document also known as the FSC Remedy Framework (FSC-PRO-01-007). FSC-PRO-01-007 provides the remedy requirements for unacceptable activities stipulated by the Policy for Association version 2 and Policy to Address Conversion.
FSC-PRO-01-004 has been developed to address alignment updates required by the new Policy for Association version 3 and non-eligibility for certification of land converted after 31 December 2020.
The main difference between the two Remedy Frameworks lies in the applicability of remedy requirements:
- FSC-PRO-01-004 for association under Policy for Association version 3.
- FSC-PRO-01-007 for association under the Policy for Association version 2 and certification of forest management units under the Policy to Address Conversion.
Along with FSC-PRO-01-004, FSC has also published an Executive Summary covering the two FSC Remedy Frameworks, which provides:
- An overview of the main features, objectives and expected outcomes of both FSC Remedy Frameworks.
- The main differences between the two procedures.
